Synvisc-One Recall

Synvisc-One is an injectable gel made by Sanofi Genzyme, designed to be a treatment for arthritis. Approved for use by the FDA in 2009, it helps patients who are unable to use other medication or pain relievers to manage arthritis pain. It is injected into the affected area, with one treatment lasting approximately 6 months, and is always administered by doctors.

Unfortunately, there have been production problems with Synvisc- One, and contaminated samples have been provided to the market. As a result, Sanofi Genzyme has voluntarily withdrawn specific production lots from the market, but not before some users received and were injected with the contaminated drug.

When Was Synvisc-One Recalled?

Synvisc-One was voluntarily recalled by the manufacturer, Sanofi Genzyme, on December 11th, 2017, citing a potential contamination of a specific production lot. The lot identification number of the affected syringes was 7RSL021, which was produced between October 25th, 2017 to early November the same year.

Why Was Synvisc- One Recalled?

The affected lot was contaminated with a gram-negative microbe known as Methylbacterium thiocyanatum. Gram-negative infections are particularly problematic as they are highly resistant to antibiotics.

Because of the way Synvisc-One is administered, the contamination would be injected directly into the body, leaving the potential for new pain-inducing problems and infections in the affected area.

Why is Synvisc- One Dangerous?

Synvisc-One that has been contaminated in this way has the potential to cause significant problems for the recipient in the area affected. This includes pain in the knee, swelling of the surrounding tissue, fluid retention around the knee, heat and redness in the affected area. These can also cause pain and difficulty walking, along with a highly antibiotic resistant infection and potential hospitalization.

Who Can File a Synvisc-One Lawsuit?

If you or a loved one have received treatment with Synvisc-One with a syringe from contaminated lot reference 7RSL021, and you have subsequently suffered medical issues related to that injection, you may qualify for filing a lawsuit against Sanofi Genzyme.

Although Synvisc-One has been recalled,  it may be too late for many of the people who used the drug. People who had life changing complications due to Synvisc- One deserve justice, and the attorneys at Phoenix Injury and Accident Law Firm in your area are here to help you achieve it.

What Can You Recover From an Synvisc-One Lawsuit?

Those who file a lawsuit and are awarded a settlement may recover the cost of the medical bills incurred during treatment. In addition, they may recover lost earnings from being unable to work, emotional damages, pain and suffering, and other financial costs that have been incurred.
